Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
FAQ01 I get paper jams quite often. Why? What can I do to prevent paper jams?
There are several things that can cause paper jams in the Documax, such as:

  • Incorrect forms loading
  • Incorrect paper guide locations
  • Form thickness adjustment set too close
  • Forms out of specification (size)
  • Multi-par forms construction (pin feed holes)
  • Perforations (form stock)
To prevent some of these paper jams, the following features can be used (Refer to your user manual for further assistance):

  • Position of paper guides
  • Tension between tractors
  • Auto forms loading features
  • Paper speed
  • Heavy forms features

FAQ02 I have a paper jam right now. How do I clear it?
By following the above suggestions, you should have very minimum paper jams incidents. However, in case of a paper jam, clear the error per following instructions:

  • Turn printer off
  • Manually move the forms thickness adjust knob to the full CC position
  • Lift the access cover
  • Open tractors
  • Carefully remove the forms
  • Close the access cover
  • Turn on the printer
  • Reload paper
  • Allow the printer to automatically adjust the forms gap

FAQ03 I just bought my Documax printer, and I have loaded paper just once. What do I need to do when I run out of paper?
The printer will automatically detect that you are out of paper through its paper-out switch located in the tractor. Upon paper out detection, the printer will continue printing until the next top of logical form.

The printer will go into a print suppression mode to prevent print head or platen damage, and it will display [Paper Out] in its LCD panel.

After this happens, place new paper in the tractors, press the [Load key], and go [On Line].

FAQ04 My printer is not communicating with the PC. What can I do to know if my printer is receiving data from the PC?
You would normally do what is called The Paper Clip Test. The following test will show whether the printer is receiving and transmitting data or not.

However, keep in mind that if there is a conflict between the printer and the host, it could well be the data cable.

  • Install plain paper into the printer. Load the paper into the print area.
  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the printer's interface cable.
  • Bend a small paper clip so that it looks like a "V".
  • Put one end of the paper clip into Pin 2 of the serial port.
  • Put the other end of the paper clip into Pin 3 of the serial port.
  • Turn on the printer.
  • Set the emulation to DISPLAY (Menu 3 – Emulate feature).
  • Set serial handshaking to Xon/Xoff.
  • Put the printer Online and Offline several times.
  • The printer should print pairs of 11 and 13 on the left side of the paper.
  • If you see 11 and 13 then the serial port is transmitting and receiving information.
  • If you do not see 11 and 13, you may be having serial port problems with your printer.
